Getting lost in Mandurah

Train ride to Mandurah, appreciating the peace and quiet in our Peel Region.

Coffee and sunshine 😎

We recently took a train ride to Mandurah for a spontaneous day trip. We departed from the Stirling Station and parked our car at the station for free (free parking on the weekend). We bought a family day ride ticket for $12.80 which we figured was cheaper than tagging on with our Adult SmartRiders.

A tip for you, a family day ride entitles you to inclusive Transperth rides for the whole day (bus, train, ferries) for 2 adults and 2 children. However, it is still cheaper to purchase a family day ride even if there is only two of you (Adults) because on the weekend, the ride is more expensive and if you are traveling far say 3 zones or more.

It took approximately an hour to get to Mandurah. From the Mandurah Station, we took the Mandurah Shuttle Bus (588 or 589) which goes around the major sites in the city and returns to the station. We didn't have any trouble finding it nor did we have to wait long at the bus stops despite the fact that it was Saturday.

We first stopped when we saw the Information Centre signage by the waters. We recognised that we had been here before when we last visited Mandurah when we saw the Cicerello's. We went straight to Cicerello's for some good ol' fish and chips as we were starving from the long train ride.

Comparing to the one at Freo's harbour, Cicerello's here had much better hospitality and different menu such as Manager's special and Monthly Specials such as Lobster tail and seafood platter for around $30. We ordered the traditional Fish n chips and a pineapple fritter (it's a must for me!) and sat upstairs in the outdoor area. They use the Hoki fish and it was so much more plump than the ones from Freo in terms of batter and fish ratio and came with 4 big separate portions.

We hopped on and off the Shuttle Bus which made frequent stops around Mandurah city and stopped by the Mandurah Forum shopping centure for a quick look as we remembered they had a whole new fit out early this year. Eventually, we made our way back to the station to return home!

If you are ever looking for a spontaneous day trip or something to do around Perth but you don't want to drive for hours, it's not a bad idea to visit Mandurah and spend a relaxing day there.
