A Roast to Remember

A humble, heart roast for a grand cause, 'A Roast to Remember' will bring people and community together.

Dementia is something very close to my heart so I was glad to be part of an initiative as great as 'A Roast to Remember' by the Community Vision. It aims to raise awareness and funds to support those living with dementia through community dementia bus that will offer West Australians respite, education and peace of mind.

It's great to see many of WA restaurants and businesses get on board this cause including:

- Mondo Butchers: 824 Beaufort Street, Inglewood, who will donate 10% plus you will get 10% off from buying from them.
- OzeatingWA: see their website for participating restaurants who will be donating 10% of the profit from roasts they sell. And/Or purchase a WAfoodies membership and $5 will be donated towards this cause.
- Millbrook winery in Perth Hills from Fogarty Wine Group: generously supported the media event.
- The Shoe Bar and Cafe at Yagan Square: generously donated their venue, drinks and food at the Baby Shoe Bar function area and has introduced 'Roast Chicken Sundays' (available from 11am on Sundays) until 2nd of December where its 10% of profits will be donated.

The media event was held at the Baby Shoe Bar function area which is directly across from their actual venue, the Shoe Bar and Cafe. Set up with two long tables, it has its own bar and staff who will readily be there for the function. They showcased their Roast Chicken Sundays' half butterflied roast chicken as a share plate concept, set with gravy, baby potatoes, honey soy roasted carrots and a parmesan, pea and savoy cabbage salad. This was deliciously paired with Millbrook's Regional GSM which is available for purchase at the bar for $13 per 250ml.

Going back to Community Vision who have developed this initiative, they are a not-for-profit community-based organisation that supports individuals living with dementia, their family members, their carers and the community.

Brief stats on dementia: in 2018, there are an estimated 425,000+ Australians living with dementia, with 250 new cases diagnosed each day. Without a medical breakthrough, this number will jump to 650 by 2056.

Given the name 'A Roast to Remember', you can choose to create a roast (preferably bought from Mondo Butchers, donate AND save money), invite friends and/or family, have lots of fun plus raise funds. You can download the invite from the website and send it to your guests. Guests can simply donate:

  2. Cash can be collected and donated via a participating Commonwealth Bank branch
