The high standard at the Standard Perth sets the bar for classy bars in Perth!
Too many puns for your liking? ;)
The chef Chase Weber has been working hard since the beginning of the
Standard, fusing Asian cuisine into Western bar culture to pair with cocktails and wines and beers, and has been doing it well. In fact, he was crowned the winner of the competition at the Winning Appliances for the WA Good Food Guide's Chef's cook-off.

This turmeric wafer duck salad was the winning dish. |
Most dishes are designed to be shared (or not to be shared which are some of the other dishes on offer on menu).
The Spring/Summer menu here is all brand-new except for two dishes which managed to stay; one of which is their famous kangaroo dish (Caramelised kangaroo, sesame soy custard, pineapple, finger lime).

Kingfish ceviche, toasted coconut, vinaigrette, sour coconut |
This elegant dish was a great start to our course meal, light and refreshing but an interesting flavour with taste of coconut throughout the fish. Thinly sliced kingfish sashimi really soaked up the subtle yet bold coconut flavour.

Caramelised pork satay dip, puffed rice crackers, cucumber |
The caramelised pork satay dip with puffed rice crackers (pictured above) was pretty to look at and fun to eat and reminded me of these puffed rice crackers I used to have as a kid growing up in South Korea. It was called 'Ppeong-twi-gyi' and looked very similar as well. The salty and sweet caramelised pork satay dip which can be enjoyed with the crackers was a perfect accompaniment to the dish.

The Standard has really stepped it up in terms of quality bar food that had me reaching for more drinks, food, drinks, food ... (you get the gist)
I have always liked the modern Asian cuisine provided at this place, welcoming yet intimate vibe they have managed to create and the extensive drinks menu!
I will no doubt be back there to try more dishes from their new menu 💓
